Rockaway Beach banner

I did a banner for New york news site, Capital New York. With the heat wave we're currently getting in the city, the Editor and I thought it would be nice to do a banner on Rockaway Beach, since most New Yorkers are frequenting there this summer.

Here are two color sketches.

We ended up going with the second sketch, only with a few more people in it like in the first one. Also, the beach signs have been removed and "Rockaway Beach" is now in the sky.

I'm currently finishing up illustrations for a few literary classics; To Kill a Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby, to be used in a series of illustrated videos for Sparknotes Video. The Scarlet Letter may be on the way as well.

Helmet-2-Helmet

I did this illustration about the severity of helmet-to-helmet hits in the game of American Football. A helmet-to-helmet hit is when a player hits another player while leading with his helmet, banging his helmet into his opponent's.

1. Thumbnail Sketch. Small thumbnail sketch to work out the composition. I was going for action and I wanted the hit to look like it hurt.

2. Drawing. I chose to give the background action lines, kind of like a comic book.

I haven't posted anything on this blog in a VERY LONG TIME, so let me fill you in on things...

I just graduated from SVA last month, where I was lucky enough to have a studio for my senior year. This is actually a photo of my desk in that studio, taken late at night (which were peak working hours for me that year). The one thing I didn't like about this desk is that it was too small. But that's OK because my new desk is twice the size! But anyway, I just moved to Brooklyn and I'm still drawing and painting. I'm actually working on some projects right now that I will post soon.
